“I joined Columbia Sussex in January of 1999, having come from Marriott International after a decade of service.  I was curious how working for a franchise company would differ from the large corporate company. Very quickly I could see the differences. Things were more casual, yet the standards were very high, so much so that we outscored Marriott Corporate hotels. The dynamic of a family owned and run company; I found myself having access to executive level management and ownership where I could see that they had a genuine care for all their employees. In my specific discipline, maintaining the properties were easy to accomplish, not having levels of red tape when something needed to be done, it was done.
